DELI FIRST OPENED IN GREAT FALLS, VIRGINIA, IN 1990. YASSER BASLIOS WAS HIRED AS A DISHWASHER BEFORE WORKING HIS WAY TO OWNERSHIP. FOR An EGYPTIAN IMMIGRANT WITH VERY LITTLE MONEY AND (IN HIS WORDS) “ZERO ENGLISH”, CHASING THE AMERICAN DREAM HAS BEEN EXCITING BUT ALSO INCREDIBLY HUMBLING. OLD REGULARS WHO STILL VISIT US TODAY REMEMBER THE PLASTIC CHAIRS IN OUR TINY RESTAURANT, WHICH COULD SEAT JUST SIX GUESTS AT A TIME.
THOUGH DELI ITALIANO HAS GROWN A LOT IN THE LAST 31 YEARS, WE HAVE HELD ON DEARLY TO THE THINGS WE WERE BUILT ON: GOOD OLD FASHIONED CUSTOMER SERVICE, MADE-FROM-SCRATCH DOUGH AND SAUCE, TOPPED WITH 100% REAL MOZZARELLA CHEESE, AND KEEPING OUR HEARTS AND MINDS FOCUSED ON HELPING OTHERS, IN ANY WAY WE CAN.
